Don't you think some people might find it unpleasant to read "harmless literary profanity"?

I don't know anyone who would be disgusted by hearing profanity without excessive use or insults. Swear words are an integral part of our language, and everyone uses them. They simply carry a bit more energy, and in a negative context, they can cause rejection. Therefore, it's not the words themselves that matter, but the meaning behind them. In a humorous context, using profanity is perfectly acceptable – it's a sacred thing, and no one would object.

As for the forum rules and asterisks: you can write

Moderated: PROFANITY in the message

, but everyone will still understand what you're talking about and read it as intended. What's the point then?
