George Orwell's book "1984" is very good. I advise you to download and listen to it. Although it mocks the Soviet Union, the essence is roughly the same - the leaders also thought they could break the system, but the opposite happened. "Animal Farm" by the same author is essentially about the same thing, with the only difference being that it is about capitalism.
