I read your posts and remembered one trick that I figured out in Heroes.
For example, if you have 3 silver and you need 10, I would do this: I would send 3 silver to the computer, so I would have 0 left. Then, on his turn, he would send me silver ;) and not just 3.
I'll say one thing: if he doesn't have that resource himself, then the silver will just be wasted there.
