Let's say, if you ask for examples of abuse of power in the 90s, most people over 30 will still remember many episodes, both personal and involving their acquaintances. Or take the same budget theft. Putin recently said that about 10% is stolen. The opposition cites figures slightly higher – about 20-25%. The truth is probably somewhere in between. Let's say 15%. I don't have exact figures for how much was stolen in the 90s, but it was clearly more; they didn't really hide it back then. Those same IMF loans were almost completely embezzled. It's just that there wasn't a media campaign back then, so it wasn't widely reported.

A similar media campaign was launched earlier regarding the army – hence all these high-profile campaigns about hazing, the sensationalization of individual tragic episodes (which have always existed and will continue to exist, there are many idiots), and presenting them as a trend. But if you sit down and calculate, for example, the number of deaths per year per 1000 people among men aged 18-20 in civilian life and in the army, you will find that civilian life has a much larger number. That is, on average, it is statistically safer for a young man to be in the army.

But my circle of friends (for example, at work) allows me to confidently say that corruption exists and has permeated absolutely all branches of our society, from kindergarten to the Supreme Court. Moreover, it is so severe and rotten that there is no end or limit to this phenomenon in sight. There are occasional public displays of punishment on TV, but that's it. All those who are "taken care of" are still in their positions, and those who are few are replaced immediately. This means that this practice suits, if not everyone, then many, so I tend to think that society deserves what it has. In this regard (determination), I am a little envious of Ukraine, but no more! (I'm not sure that those who are now at the helm of the opposition – Yatsenyuk, Tymoshenko, and others from Batkivshchyna – will be better for the people). Regarding abuses, if you really believe that they don't exist, and that the rich and/or powerful cannot do what they want (or what they have agreed upon), then you clearly live in a different country, in many ways an imaginary one.
