I've always been annoyed that the Jedi in "Star Wars" are portrayed as a positive force. It's time to set the record straight:

- The Republic was a republic in name only. In reality, it was a feudal military dictatorship. The Senate, due to its size and incompetence (a typical senator being Jar Jar Binks), was just a talking shop. Real power belonged to the Jedi Council, which appointed its own members. Out of 12 council members, 5 were elected for life, and another 4 for a long term, until voluntary resignation. That's 9, enough to make any decision.

- Over THOUSANDS OF YEARS, the Jedi failed to implement federal legislation in the Republic and equalize the level of economic development. On Coruscant, there are kilometer-high skyscrapers, while Tatooine remained a poor, desolate place, just as it was 4,000 years ago.

- Anakin Skywalker was a slave. And he would have remained one if not for a lucky break. The Jedi did nothing to eradicate slavery.

- Big business (the Trade Federation) was driven to the brink by rising taxes and corruption, leading it to wage war against its own government.

- There was no counterintelligence at all. The Republican authorities were completely surprised by the clone army, the Sith puppet master, and Order 66.

- Budget control was terrible. It is impossible to create a clone army without large allocations from the federal budget. The government didn't even know that trillions of credits were being spent on something unknown.

- Did the Jedi have a social base? When Palpatine staged the coup, the authorities had no loyal regiments. And the population reacted with indifference.

- The Empire in Star Wars made a deal with the population: you don't interfere in politics, and we won't touch you and will ensure economic growth. In modern history, such regimes have proven to be the most effective.

- What was the political program of the rebels? It consisted of one single point: to overthrow the Emperor and take power themselves. The planets that joined the rebels hoped for key positions in the government of the new republic, and the Jedi dreamed of returning to the establishment.
