Path to Greatness

If I hadn't accidentally encountered a Sphinx and then bought Phoenixes, I wouldn't have been able to survive. I cleared Inferno with a decent army. And why doesn't my faction have buildings where I can recruit an army? (I had to search for a few kilometers to find them). It's an unfair arrangement.
Regarding the transformation, I left one enemy alive, and it still didn't work.
