The very first expedition sent to the Underground Dungeons, located in the Domains, quickly returned. This rapid withdrawal was due to the discovery of manuscripts describing an ancient ritual for subduing Free Heroes, which, according to the texts, were used in ancient times to guard these very Domains. Moreover, the subjugated heroes became so powerful that they instilled fear even in bandits, who at that time were terrorizing the peaceful lands.
The Council of Factions refused to publish this ritual, and when questioned, the mages become gloomy and look away. All that is known for certain is that Captive Heroes can now be exchanged in the Tavern for racial Souls, obtained by making sacrifices on the Altar, which gives rise to various unpleasant thoughts.
After the first attempts at subjugation, it became clear that the summoned hero becomes a loyal vassal of his master until his death, attacking everyone nearby, with the exception of other heroes of the same faction as the suzerain. The magical connections formed during subjugation mean that a vassal's victory over another hero brings the suzerain one-hundredth of the defeated hero's treasury, while defeat gives the victor one-thousandth of the master's treasury. It also turned out that summoning vassals only works in hostile and dangerous areas of the world, as well as in the native capital's surroundings.
Against the backdrop of these exciting events, an alarming news story about the recent appearance of Marks of Life and Death passed almost unnoticed: it turned out to be a scam. Large quantities of these artifacts were stolen from all the Capital shops and soon found to be in the possession of Free Heroes. Now, not just a few of them possess such Marks, but all of them. Moreover, the necks freed from these Marks are now adorned with other powerful artifacts, making life much more difficult for those hunting for their own kind.
The organizers of the scam are being searched for, but so far without success.
