HoMM3 HD is a mod (add-on) for the game Heroes of Might and Magic 3.

Implement an HD option for automatic saving before and after each battle. This would also speed up the replay of turns in case of a disconnect.

Moreover, saves during a turn should be made overwritable – so there is no desire to load a slightly earlier save.

Then it would be better to make autosaving after each action: moved a unit, picked up a resource, cast a spell, dealt damage. Then the save can be made as a single file with a list of actions, like in AutoCAD. There is no need to replay turns after a disconnect, and pulling the plug is pointless.
