Problems with the "Shades of Darkness" expansion.

I have Windows 7. I downloaded Shades of Darkness, and I'm having trouble... The game starts normally, but after the first battle, the screen darkens. The silhouettes and glowing flags are barely visible, but everything else is not visible((( Compatibility mode is set for Windows 7. This is the only game I love, please help!
