i.e., is there no exchange? Or is the exchange one-sided: the satyr gives the hunter a taunt, but receives nothing in return?

The exchange does occur; the satyr deprives the assassin of their special ability and gives them its own, but the assassin cannot use it. If they try, they will simply skip their turn.
The taunt only works if the player performs an action. If they stay at home, nothing happens.
