Kinda yeah, with the current dog-and-cat fight between Mee and asm, it looks like the CIS will have to play on SoD.

Especially since Nagan and Tvaryna aren't exactly rushing to organize a SoD champ either.

P.S. HotA currently makes a pleasant impression both in terms of concept and what has already been done. If the developers also turn out to be reasonable and not lazy (I can't evaluate this parameter yet), it could very well push VT aside as the main alternative to SoD.
