It’s impossible to make Heroes of Might and Magic I playable online.
At least not during “my” time. There was an issue with different random number generators. That is, if two players are battling online, and some creature gets blessed on one side, it doesn’t necessarily mean that this same creature will be blessed on the other end. So they just stand there, waiting. One starts cursing: "Why aren't you shooting elves? They got blessed!" And the other replies: "Nothing got blessed, your ogres should be moving now..." :)
Although, maybe it has been fixed by now. :)
