GM, your tirade is certainly interesting, but here's the problem: it creates a noticeable imbalance. I'm on version 2.0, and I think that by 2.1 or 2.4, something will change. I remember the griffon feature in the beta and the disappointment of many in version 1.0.
Besides, the new features for the Fortress mages, with their gremlins, are not very pleasing. Repairing golems once is just a waste of time, and it's not a proper repair. It seems that the ability of the dwarves is tuned to match the ability of the elves. I think they will still make some changes to all this.
