So, it turns out that in Armageddon's Blade and the Era of Chaos, trenches don't work anywhere in the Campaigns?! I don't care where I play regular maps; I can even play in Breath of Death. But I want to play the Armageddon's Blade campaign properly.
Sorry for the necro-post, but I want to clarify the situation. In the Armageddon's Blade version, the trench did not deal damage on all maps – this is not a bug, but simply a game rule. In Breath of Death, they added damage from the trench, but in the Campaigns of the Era of Chaos and Armageddon's Blade, they specifically made the game follow the rules of those versions – so that nothing would change in the campaigns. Therefore, playing the Armageddon's Blade campaign properly means playing without trench damage. And you can't collect artifacts there, for example.
I had the following problem: in the castle, the towers' mines didn't work, i.e., enemy stacks stood calmly on the mines and walked over them; they didn't disappear, they didn't explode, there was no mass dispel, I still lost that battle to the computer, and I still don't know if it was because of the red, angry orb or the Cloak of Renunciation? or is it just a bug? After that, everything was absolutely normal.
If the hero has at least one Tower creature at the beginning of the battle, all of his creatures will ignore the trench mines until the end of the battle.
