(Hero - Rogue) in Heroes 4

...OptiMAL doesn't believe that you get a lot of experience for defeating monsters.

Even if you get a lot of experience, so what? You wander around the map alone, without an army, leveling up, and an enemy attacks your castle and easily captures it. And what does that mean? One man is an army?:)
