Belendor: Taverns were deliberately removed, and I even agree with the author: firstly, it enhances the RPG-like nature of the game in the early stages, and secondly, taverns offer the possibility of recruiting previously defeated strong enemy heroes into your army.
There are taverns on the map, but not from the very beginning – you still need to reach them.
Soon, a LawKeeper appeared in my tavern – the same one who was standing near the Observatory at the beginning, and he even had "huge" initial stats (see the screenshot). Yes, I hired him, but I didn't make him the main hero to avoid disrupting the author's vision and making the game too easy for myself: Aiden remained the main hero.
