Confirmed. Right before the final showdown, the camp offered an Arch Devil (I foolishly bought it, and it stayed with the scout since I had no moves left). Then I only ran with Ivor to break through and ran into Shakti — I had 6 units, 28 Elves, and about 20 Centaurs, while my opponent had 6 Hydras, 8 Wyverns, and 200+ Troglodytes. When only the Elves remained, the ransom cost 4800 gold, but I only had 1300. So that Devil tempted me, and because of it, I lost. As it was, I had left my opponent with only those Hydras from his army, and with the ransom I could have put up more of a fight.

P.S. Also, the map was just strange — we met on the path without ГО.
