On Saturday, June 29, 79-year-old computer scientist, futurist, and philanthropist James Martin passed away. He predicted the emergence of the modern Internet 25 years before its appearance and was one of the developers of the Sabre airline ticket reservation system.
The scientist was found in the water near the shore of his own Agars Island, where he had lived for the past 16 years. The death was due to natural causes, ITAR-TASS reports.
James Martin, author of numerous books on programming and other IT topics, was included in Computerworld magazine's list of 25 people who had the greatest influence on cybernetic technologies.
