A method of erasing associations with alcohol can help recovering alcoholics avoid relapses. This is what the authors of the latest study believe, who conducted experiments on laboratory rats.
Scientists believe that associations, such as the smell of beer, prevent people from overcoming alcohol addiction, causing constant relapses. The problem is that it is extremely difficult to fight the effects caused by unconscious associations.
Today, researchers have discovered a molecular complex in the rat's brain, the study of which will subsequently help to develop a formula for a cure for alcoholism.
