In the first game, I didn't explore much, only took two villages in one of the zones, and the rest was blocked. In the second game, there were several Hives, then I cleared the entire 5th level in the Dungeon, got a Knight Vanguard for the Archmage, and then I got lucky, Marius appeared in the Treasure, and I still had an army on my secondary hero.
