Why is a conference needed when there is a forum?

For the same reason that ICQ and other similar programs are needed. You have to constantly check the forum to see if there are new messages; after checking 10 times, many people log in the next day, or even later. ICQ and Skype are interactive; you receive everything while online. However, in ICQ, you can only communicate through dialogue, while in Skype, all conference participants are interactive, like in a World of Warcraft chat, but with a moderator in the form of the tournament organizer.

Personally, as an organizer, I see the following advantages in creating a conference, which I don't have in other alternatives:

1. Mass mailing without having to select recipients for a long time (write, send, and all participants receive it).
2. An alternative means of communication. Often, a player is not available on ICQ but is on Skype.
3. Again, mass notification of all participants with a link to an important message in the tournament topic on the forum.
4. And most importantly, direct communication between participants creates a special atmosphere and gives players who want to be involved the opportunity to be part of all the events.
