Confirmed.
I decided to play on a buggy map: there was no second town, and only one road led directly to Protos's spawn point. In the center, the road ended at a neutral Castle.
As a result, I reached the center on day 124, having defeated almost 50 Behemoths and 26 Angels. I was left with only 14 Angels... I didn't take the 6 Wyverns that were from the only Hive on my spawn point with me. I settled into the neutral Castle to replenish my mana. Then I cleared out the Utopia (it didn't have anything good), cleared out the Titan's Sword, and a few other minor things, and wandered around the desert all this time. Towards the end, on day 2, Luna finally got pathfinding, and I cleared out the Gloves. I killed my opponent's Scout with my own Scout and found a good shield, a couple of Hives, and the Book of Earth in the desert. This was my chance, and only chance. In terms of attack, we were equal; Tazar and Luna had around 20 attack, Tazar also had around 20 defense, and I was leading in magic stats, but on the next turn, Tazar ambushed me in the desert.
