Yeah, but you didn't pick up that pile of gold near the niche. Also, you didn't check the road ahead; there could have been (and was, but in the game) another road leading to the secondary resource, quite possibly with less expensive guards than the pits, while the upper road leads to the main resource. And the fact that you "scout" with your hero after taking the first niche, even if only by one square, is epic. You would simply be called a noob for such a play if you hadn't found all the goodies on the respawn point that way.
