Why did Neira try to pass herself off as a Teenager?

There are two people left for this role, but only one is applying. I don't know where the second one is, but they might be someone else, so we just have to believe it, especially since Neira wrote something that could have actually happened. Maybe it's a lie, but the investigators can check it and hint if something is wrong.
