My maximum is 4 cows and 3 ducks, and 4 Archons triggered the ability.

It took me three attempts; I lost the first two because I didn't attack with my entire army. I positioned myself in the upper left corner, exposing the Vasas (which, by the way, were petrified by the Archons' counterattack).
