Why is Riva an alchemist and not, for example, a jeweler? She doesn't work with mercury.

The game uses a different name; I forgot to add it (Gem Alchemist). Useful alchemy is about obtaining what you need from what you don't. I don't know why the developers named the mercury-handler like that.
