Painless only for the one who withdraws. For everyone else, it's always very unpleasant, especially for the organizer. The system of the tournament doesn't matter here, because it is agreed upon directly before the start of the tournament, and by signing up, you take on certain obligations that should be fulfilled, at least out of respect for the organizer and other participants.
Besides, you still have a chance to get into the final bracket, because 7 people will be selected in the end, and you already have 1 point. If you win the rest, you will have 5 out of 7 points, which will most likely be enough to get into the top seven.
