A mage with a staff can be a creature, just like a girl with knives. Otherwise, why would the presentation of images with them differ from the presentation of images with units? And the heroes of the original factions were shown "in three colors" - with models of neutral reputation, Tears, and Blood.
The girl with knives is definitely a basic warrior. And the mage is a hero. The presentation of the images is identical because they were not created by the developers themselves. And regarding the remark about reputations: that was the case with the ready-made factions. This one never made it into the game, so they only showed one picture. What was the point of including similar illustrations in the book? The heroes of the Dungeon are also shown in a single instance.
