I agree about the names – calling a character Nicholas is a bit much. Regarding the sacred animals and Jesus – you're not making armor out of Jesus's skin, and it's clear that this is for religious reasons, not because it would be bad armor. But in my opinion, the world still implies a certain number of poachers, for whom forbidden scales don't inspire any sacred awe. And they could very well gather these scales for armor. After all, when a dragon dies on the battlefield, and scavengers subsequently pass through it, it can also lose its scales and everything else.
