You could come up with a more realistic situation, like 1k skeletons with support and 1k mana, for example. We take bracers, a red orb, and a few archers who can't kill the skeletons but can easily eliminate the support.

The issue is only problematic in a situation where both players are dodging. That's why I think that in such a situation, we shouldn't look for an answer to it. Let each player decide what is more advantageous for them – to fight or to agree to a stalemate with its consequences.
But I disagree here. I believe that the defender still has the right not to advance. That's what being a defender is all about.
