Before the chess timer, we lost 20 seconds on the timer and 30 on shuffling. 30+20=50

Now only 30.

The profit gained from the timer offsets the shuffling time. I was comparing the timer to a non-stopping time, where these 30 seconds would be added to the player's time, resulting in even more profit +30. We're saving time until the end.
