Eric, you seem to be an excellent organizer, the life of the party, but you're really stuck in the past. What's with all the fears, grudges about the past, and so on? It's time to overcome your prejudices and take a sober look at reality, and then, perhaps, it will be possible to create a truly great CIS championship, without any "buts," by uniting both versions. And your role as an organizer will be very useful here.
I completely agree with Artem. That group of players that you constantly mention is almost irrelevant now; a new generation of players has emerged. SOD is no longer the same as it was 3-4 years ago, and I can't even name a couple of Warlords players who wouldn't be willing to play SOD, and with the introduction (in the future) of a chess timer, all the differences will be erased even more. You keep referring to the bank, classes, and experience, and you forget that almost all paired tournaments (SOD + Warlords) are successfully played on Warlords, with SOD in the final part (or on both versions alternately); all these advantages remain only for the battles between true Warlords players, i.e., they shouldn't affect anyone else.
As others have said, people go to these events mainly for communication, meeting new people, and so on; the game takes a back seat, and even those few opponents of the Warlords platform, I think, will be able to overcome themselves and play on it (if they have to), if they have the desire and the opportunity to go. It's not the game version that prevents them from going.
For now, you can gauge interest by creating a corresponding poll, for example.
