In France, it is considered normal to have a glass of wine with lunch. In the Netherlands, marijuana is legal. In England, police officers do not carry weapons. In different countries, you can find things that are not applicable to Russia.

But why are they not applicable? Even having a shot of vodka with lunch is not a sin here, and drugs are sold behind every garage.

And regarding alcohol and alcoholism – I think it's all nonsense. Yes, alcoholism is a disease, and a person suffers from it. But you can't tell by looking at a normal person whether they are an alcoholic or not. I know many people who have gone through alcoholism, but none of those around them, including me, noticed it or knew that the person was suffering from alcoholism. Almost all major businessmen are alcoholics because the job is very stressful, but you wouldn't know it by looking at many of them. And a homeless person, Vasya, whether he is an alcoholic or not, will still be seen as a homeless person by those around him. Therefore, statements like "alcoholism destroys a person" seem funny to me – it's just a disease, and nothing more. You shouldn't confuse cause and effect.
