I read a news article today that everyone should know about.

Thank you for pointing that out; I almost read it as "стоит" (stands). That would have been surprising! What would it be standing for? A pillar? A matter? There isn't even a corresponding subject. What does "стоит прочитать" (stands to read) mean? It's nonsense! But now it's clear. And you're right, there's no need to confuse people!
