In general, Bethesda likes to hint at the plot of the next games in the series. For example, in Morrowind, there were already prerequisites for the invasion of Mehrunes Dagon, and in Oblivion, there was a prophecy about the Dragonborn (if my memory serves me right, in the Blades' fortress, near Bruma).
