And now, it's also happening with the Dwarves. I've noticed that the more you level up the "War Machines" skill for the Dwarves, the more aggressively the neutral creatures target the ballista, trying to destroy it. I think it's simply because it becomes weaker than any stack of warriors.
But don't forget that you have to spend a turn to destroy it, and it will still regenerate after the battle. However, when playing against another player, "Meteor Shower" will be your ally. In any case, any decent player will defeat a leveled-up Dwarven ballista because allowing it to have 3 times the attack and initiative is, at the very least, short-sighted and impractical.
