I don't think this is such a critical point that it warrants changing the rules. I don't think there's any advantage in color in this tournament, i.e., it doesn't matter if blue chooses the template or red.

Red has many more options: it can ban 4 templates against three for blue. And red also chooses the template. And no one is saying that the rules need to be changed. His miscalculations are being pointed out.
