In the first week there was very little money, so little that it was barely enough for the fires in the Citadel...

I played the layout, even taking into account that you lost half of the fairies somewhere, the birds are placed excellently on the first week there. Even if it were the 2nd level with the Citadel, they would have stood. Maybe you should buy fewer heroes? :confused:
And external dwellings for Conflux, except T2, T6, T7, are a waste of money IMHO, not to mention beating orcs for it.
