Zellogi, you seem to be mistaken; it shouldn't work that way! If you are fighting an enemy hero, they might also have a tactic of the same level – in that case, there won't be a pre-battle formation. Also, there won't be a pre-battle formation if the battle takes place in a treasure chamber or a hive. And the template shouldn't affect this in any way.
