I don't play with difficulty levels below 200%; I recently tried it on a ship and a rook, and it's not very good... the AI plays noticeably weaker...
I have too easy a start and too quick a victory over the AI,
the whole fun is in the difficulty, when the enemy has many times more troops, and then they start to dwindle :)
I uploaded my saves; you can see that 5 titans and 100 archers with expert archery deal a laughable amount of damage at range; the penalties are obvious, melee units are decisive, and that's why I made the change towards the end of the map. And regarding templates... I have the complete collection of Heroes 3; I only play on XL; you can't get far without pathfinding, take a look at my saves, and it will be clear.
To be honest, I also love ranged attacks; the first one is great in combination with slowing, where you can destroy a hundred wooden units with 100 archers, but if you consider serious battles with the AI, where the archers are neutralized or blocked on the first or second turn, you realize that in this situation, they are just thin meat; it's much better to take melee units.
I have one question. Why do you only play against the AI? Why don't you play against people? After all, it's much more interesting, precisely because the resistance is much higher.
За то что нейтралы не бегают за единичкой, для меня это уже стоит того
