Tactics for the Stronghold.

Hmm, I have some questions.
I read about Gurnisson, and everything seems great, but it often happens that breaking through the guard before the ambush is much harder than the ambush itself (100-249 harpies). Is Kreg/Gundula a universal hero for the start, or is there a more stable option? Thank you.
