What about the option of "not flooding" the forum, but instead writing posts that are relevant to the topic? Some people are capable of writing meaningful posts, even if they didn't have time to visit the forum during the day (due to work, business, travel, etc.). Personally, I have encountered situations where a lively discussion during the day continued into the evening. And no one suffered from it (except for in-game deaths). In fact, it was quite the opposite.
