Night is largely correct. If you read the biographies of Necromancers, it becomes clear that they were all once people and are not some original characters from the world of the undead. They are either heroes who returned from the world of the dead for one reason or another, or ordinary mortals who dedicated themselves to necromancy and... became immortal.
