I just don't understand how they're going to make a trilogy. More than half of the book is already covered in the first part, it seems to me.

Jackson is going to take moments from other books by Tolkien. For example, the backstory of the Necromancer/Sauron (which doesn't make sense, since the Necromancer was only indirectly mentioned in The Hobbit).
