Well, personally, for him, it was the right decision, the most optimal solution for the situation. But in my opinion, such a position of "winning at any cost" (and here it wasn't even about winning, but about saving the angel) is quite mercenary. According to the rules, there's nothing to criticize, everything is normal, but from the point of view of elementary human ethics, I don't think he acted very well.
