As far as I understand, the issue wasn't resolved with one, but with 24 moral choices. Well, for him personally, it's definitely the right solution, the most optimal way out of the situation. But in my opinion, this "win at any cost" approach (and here it wasn't even about winning, but about saving the angel) is quite mercenary. There's nothing to criticize in terms of the rules, everything is fine, but from the point of view of basic human ethics, I don't think he acted very well.
