The October announcement of a standalone, large-scale expansion for Might & Magic: Heroes 6 has been supplemented with significant details. First, the full title of the add-on has been revealed: Might & Magic: Heroes 6 — Shades of Darkness. Second, it has been announced that it will be released on February 28, and not in the spring (well, that's a funny joke). And third, there will be twice as many epic campaigns – two instead of one.

The first, as announced, will feature the Dungeon faction, which is now not just a standalone faction, but is linked to the Dark Elves. The main hero of the campaign will indeed be Raelag. By uniting with the forces of Darkness and gaining the support of black dragons, he will show the underground inhabitants the light at the end of the tunnel. Because it was too bright there before.

However, the affairs of the Dark Elves will not go unnoticed – their magical experiments will cause a disease in the spider goddess Mother Namtaru, who is worshiped by the Necromancer Heresh (the developers cannot be denied irony – after all, it is the spider goddess Lolth that the classic Dark Elves pray to). A death knight and a vampire in one undead body, Vayne, will have to deal with the chaos. His main opponent, however, will be Sandro. And all the events of the game will take place a hundred years after the events of the original Heroes 6.

Featuring Raelag, the iconic hero first introduced in Heroes V, this full-fledged standalone game will present the return of the fan-favorite faction, Dungeon. Shades of Darkness tells, in two campaigns, the epic and world-shaping dark events in the history of Ashan, where two factions, the Dark Elves and the Necromancers, will determine their vile and terrible fates. The campaign takes place one century after the events in Heroes VI.

The Shadow-tainted Dark Elves, persecuted by humans, exiled from their homeland, torn by internal strife. As the heir to the throne of Queen Tuihdana, the hero Raelag can unite them and make them grow again as a proud and strong people. Forging an alliance with the forces of Darkness, he will gain the support of the all-powerful black dragons and raise the Dark Elves as masters of deception, cunning, and murder!

The Necromancers of Heresh face a crisis that threatens their very existence, as a magical disease slowly destroys their Spider Goddess, Mother Namtaru. The player will embody the vampire hero, Vayne, an outcast Death Knight with a troubled past. After uniting with his former mentor, Vayne will discover that the source of the disease is linked to the Dark Elves and the infamous Netherlord, Sandro. To thwart Sandro's plans, Vayne will have to repair the damaged memories of Mother Namtaru and restore her divine powers.
