Are you in favor of electing Moderators?

P.S. I just left the site, then thought "shouldn't I bet myself 5 bucks that the person who created this topic is not a moderator?". I came back, checked – and it’s true. He isn’t a moderator)). Only one answer arose in my head to the question “Why does he need this?” - he wants to become a moderator)).

In general, regarding the topic: IMHO, I don't see anything wrong with choosing moderators. Provided that this won't be the only way to become a moderator. i.e., as I envision it: a person posts in this thread: /topic/4720/ saying they want to moderate a specific section. The coordinator/creator either immediately rejects the application (if it’s clear that the user cannot be relied upon) or creates a voting thread, based on which a decision is made.
If a certain person is needed in a specific position, then they can be appointed without a vote.

This system, as it seems to me, would be quite viable. Another question: but is it even necessary (i.e., should we choose moderators for ХВ right now)? Are there any complaints about the current moderators (except for the absence of some of them)?
