It's strange how much time has passed, how many events have occurred, yet Stalin and Nicholas II remain the most discussed figures. And the most discussed topics are the revolution and the repressions. Few delve deeply into the past, and even fewer are satisfied with the present. Here's another paradox: the 20th century is the closest to us, yet we know less truth about it than we do about primitive people. And in general, textbooks should be written with space for adjustments, so that with each change in the "general line," one could simply pencil in the necessary names and epithets. Something like this: "Thanks to the heroic/significant/unnecessary efforts of Lenin/Stalin/Putin, the most just/dishonest/cruel society in the world was built (underline the appropriate one)."
