That's exactly why I didn't vote – I was afraid of making a mistake, falling for a Mafia ploy, and once again proving that I can be manipulated in any way and that I'm of no use.

This applies to everyone. Half the votes are needed for an execution. The accused won't die if you cast 1-3 votes, but they might get nervous. And you can determine their side, or at least guess it, by how they react.
